Cambridge Stratum currently has three technologies for the treatment of Thread veins, telangeictasia and other venous lesions.
IPL
IPL is a good general purpose tool and is effective for the finer more superficial facial thread veins and telangeictasia. The much larger treatment head of IPL makes it very fast relative to other technologies for treating telangeictasia, although the lack of focus and the broad spectrum are major limiting factors when treating larger individual vessels.

Long Pulse NdYag (LP NdYAG)
Until recently the LP NdYag has been considered by many to be the gold standard for treating thread veins. The advantages of the LP NdYAG are, the very good penetration of the 1064nm wavelength, relative safety compared to most shorter wavelengths and the dual use as a laser for hair removal, especially in Fitzpatrick skin types IV, V and VI.
Fibre 980nm
The latest development in the treatment of venous lesions is the 980nm fibre laser. Light is absorbed twice as strongly by hemoglobin at 980nm compared to either 810nm or 1064nm and its melanin absorption is 1/3rd the level compared to at 810nm.
Other advantages include:
- Very long life of the fibre laser 300,000 hours
- The ability to deliver a very wide range of pulse durations including CW
